We are ready to ensure peaceful elections- Ghana Police
The Ghana Police Service has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s peace before, during, and after the upcoming December 7 general elections, calling upon all citizens to contribute to a peaceful election process. Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of Police at a Peace Prayer Concert organized by the Adventist Church of Darkuman, COP Daniel Kwame Afriyie, Director-General of Human Resource Development, highlighted the collective responsibility required for maintaining harmony across the nation.
The theme of the concert, “Be an Agent of Peace,” reflected the important role that faith-based organizations play in promoting peace, especially during election periods. COP Afriyie emphasized that peacekeeping is a shared duty, urging individuals, particularly the youth, to resist involvement in violence. He advised that election season should be about exchanging ideas, not spreading fear or engaging in disruptive activities.
Detailing the security preparations, COP Afriyie assured that every polling station and electoral office would have a police presence, with additional support from other security agencies to cover any gaps. He underscored the ongoing commitment of the police force to both election-related security and their regular duties, such as night patrols and intelligence gathering, to prevent criminal activities during the election period.
Further contributing to the event, Greater Accra Regional Electoral Commission (EC) Director Gladys Pinkrah encouraged citizens to remain cautious with post-election celebrations to avoid provoking unnecessary conflict. She appealed to the religious community to keep praying for a credible, transparent, and fair election process.
Colonel Pastor Peter Nyarko Duodu, Director of Army Religious Affairs, also called on Ghanaians to prioritize their future and avoid violent or divisive actions. He emphasized that true peace is achieved when citizens choose understanding and calm over conflict, especially during challenging moments.
This collective call to peace serves as a reminder to all Ghanaians that safeguarding the nation’s stability is a shared responsibility, extending beyond the efforts of security agencies to include the active participation of every citizen.
