In a recent conversation on Accra FM with host Nana Romeo, Ghanaian singer Sefa shared insights into the struggles that female artists encounter within the Ghanaian music industry. Reflecting on her personal journey, Sefa emphasized how often, public attention centers on appearance over the diligence and passion female musicians bring to their careers.

“I don’t know about other female artists, but that’s what I’ve noticed. A lot of Ghanaians forget about the hard work and focus mainly on looks,”

she remarked, expressing frustration with the public’s narrow focus, which overlooks the significant commitment and effort these artists invest in their music.

The conversation became more serious when Sefa recounted a disturbing incident during a performance in Kasoa, where she faced sexual harassment after stepping off stage.

“Yes, I have been harassed sexually,” she confirmed. “After performing at a show in Kasoa and I left the stage, I felt hands all over me…my breasts, my private parts…like men and women touching me. It was so frustrating…that was where I really felt it,” she described. When asked about the motives behind the crowd’s behavior, the “Echoke” singer suggested they were likely trying to get closer to her, adding, “They all wanted to see me; however, they should know there have to be boundaries. People shouldn’t take advantage of such opportunities to do that.”

Sefa also shared that while she has occasionally dealt with verbal harassment from afar, the physical encounter in Kasoa deeply unsettled her. This experience, she explained, left a lasting impact, as it went beyond words and intruded upon her personal space in a way that left her feeling vulnerable and shaken.

Presently, Sefa is actively promoting her new single, “All Over.” Through her recent revelations, she aims to highlight the critical issues female artists face within the industry, advocating for greater respect and acknowledgment for women in entertainment. Her story stands as a call for change, urging the music industry and the general public to foster a safer and more supportive environment for female musicians.
