President-elect Mahama Nominates Alban Bagbin as Speaker for 9th Parliament

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has formally requested the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament to nominate Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic. The decision reflects the NDC’s focus on leveraging seasoned leadership to enhance parliamentary effectiveness and democratic governance.

The nomination, finalized after extensive consultations with the party’s leadership, underscores Bagbin’s enduring contributions to Ghana’s legislative development. The move aligns with the NDC’s vision of ensuring effective parliamentary governance during this critical period in Ghana’s political journey.

The announcement was officially communicated in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Special Aide to the President-elect, on Sunday, January 5, 2025. This decision signals a continued commitment by the incoming administration to prioritize expertise and experience in leadership roles.
