Partey and Kudus got nominated for CAF Men’s Footballer of the Year Award

In a much-anticipated announcement, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled its nominations for the prestigious Men’s Footballer of the Year award.  Among the standout nominees are Ghanaian football talents Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus, both integral members of Ghana’s senior men’s football team, the Black Stars. The nominations, which include a total of 30 exceptional players, were officially disclosed by CAF on November 1, 2023, setting the stage for the forthcoming Awards Gala, scheduled to take place on Monday, December 11, 2023, in the enchanting city of Marrakech, Morocco.

Mohammed Kudus, a versatile player renowned for his prowess as an attacking midfielder or right winger, made headlines by making a move to West Ham United in the summer, having previously played for the revered Ajax Amsterdam. Thomas Partey, on the other hand, has solidified his position as a key figure in the English Premier League, featuring prominently as a defensive midfielder or right-back for Arsenal following his transfer from Atletico Madrid in October 2020.

Notably, both of these Ghanaian superstars played pivotal roles in representing the Black Stars during the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar in 2022, showcasing their remarkable skills and contributing to their team’s performance on the world stage.

The announcement clarified that the preliminary list of nominees, particularly for the Men’s Footballer of the Year award, was meticulously curated by a distinguished panel composed of CAF technical experts, African football icons, and media representatives hailing from various nations. This selection process was primarily based on the outstanding performances exhibited by the nominees during the evaluation period spanning from November 2022 to September 2023.

The nominations for the ultimate Men’s Footballer of the Year award were whittled down to a final list of 30, reflecting the elite class of African football talent.

Furthermore, the Awards Gala promises to be a thrilling celebration of African football excellence, with other coveted awards up for grabs, including the CAF Interclub Player of the Year, boasting 20 highly-regarded nominees, the Coach of the Year, the CAF National Team of the Year, and the CAF Club of the Year. Additionally, the CAF Young Player of the Year award will honor players under the age of 21, with 10 exceptional talents vying for this prestigious title.

According to a CAF statement, the eventual winners in each category will be determined through a comprehensive voting process. This voting panel will comprise key figures from the CAF Technical Committee, esteemed media professionals, as well as the head coaches and captains of member associations and clubs engaged in the group stages of the interclub competitions.
