London Lorry Driver Sentenced to 14 Years for Non-Consensual Condom Removal
A London lorry driver has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of rape for removing his condom without consent during intercourse. Laurence Rafter, 43, from Barnet, north London, deceived his victim by posing as a wealthy businessman named “Jay Lincoln” on a dating app, luring a 32-year-old woman into meeting him in July 2021. The woman had explicitly requested he wear protection, but Rafter removed it mid-act without her knowledge. Adding to the distress, he falsely claimed to be HIV-positive as he left, a statement later proven to be untrue.
Rafter’s deceptive behavior extended beyond this act. Authorities uncovered falsified addresses, fake bank statements, and a pre-paid mobile phone used to avoid police detection. Despite portraying himself as a multi-millionaire, he actually lived in a modest flat. Following a thorough investigation, he was found guilty of rape in October and also admitted to harassing his victim. Additionally, in February 2022, he pleaded guilty to malicious communications and threats to disclose private images involving two other victims, whom he also met online under a false identity.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley praised the victim’s bravery in coming forward and emphasized the severity of Rafter’s crimes. “I would like to commend this survivor for the bravery she demonstrated in this case and the evidence she provided. The robust sentence delivered by the judge clearly demonstrates the significant dangerousness that this man poses to women.” Ridley further highlighted the tireless efforts of law enforcement in identifying and prosecuting Rafter.
“Rafter is a predatory offender who exploited social media to facilitate his violent and abusive behavior,” Ridley stated. “He devised a fictitious profile, posing as a wealthy businessman with multiple businesses around the world, in a calculated campaign to violate, threaten, and harm the women he met.”
The case underscores the seriousness of sexual crimes and reinforces the justice system’s commitment to protecting victims from predatory individuals who manipulate and exploit others for personal gain.
