King Paluta: Bringing Grammys to Africa Would Devalue the Prestige

King Paluta, the reigning New Artiste of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), believes that hosting the Grammys in Africa would undermine the esteemed nature of the award.

The rising star contends that African musicians should continue to travel abroad to receive the Grammys, as it enhances their prestige and garners attention from major music labels.

In an interview with Accra-based United Television, the ‘Aseda’ hitmaker expressed his concern that organizing the Grammy Awards in Africa might deter influential music executives from attending. This, he argues, would be detrimental to African artists seeking to attract prominent record labels.

“They should keep the awards where they are because anything that the white man decides to bring to Africa loses its value. We want to travel abroad to receive the awards. That is a symbol of prestige, and that is what we desire,” he stated in Twi.

Paluta’s perspective highlights a broader discussion on the significance of international recognition for African artists and the potential impact on their careers. By maintaining the Grammy Awards outside Africa, he believes that the allure and respect associated with receiving such a distinguished accolade would be preserved, benefiting artists in their pursuit of global success.
