John Mahama Vows to Complete Rural Electrification by 2028 if Elected
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to extend electricity to every rural community in Ghana by 2028, should he be elected in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking at an energy sector engagement in Accra, the former President highlighted the halt in the rural electrification initiative since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took office. He emphasized that this program, initiated under the NDC’s previous administration, is crucial to improving productivity and the quality of life in underserved communities.
“Every community in Ghana deserves electricity to enhance productivity,”
Mahama stated. He assured that the rural electrification project would be fully completed by 2028, benefiting all communities across the country.
In addition to his electrification promise, Mahama also vowed to address corruption within the energy sector, accusing the current administration of nepotism and mismanagement. He asserted his commitment to halting the exploitation of the sector by “family and friends,” referring to alleged favoritism within the ruling government. This electrification plan forms a key part of Mahama’s vision to foster economic growth and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians living in rural areas.
