Ghanaians are asking me to pay them money before they can vote for me- Dr. Hassan Ayariga of All People’s Party
Dr. Hassan Ayariga, leader of the All People’s Party (APP), has raised concerns about the rising financial demands of election campaigning in Ghana. Speaking on the challenges he faces ahead of the 2024 general elections, Dr. Ayariga disclosed that many voters openly ask for money in exchange for their support.
“Campaigning has become very expensive,” he stated. “Voters now demand money before they’ll vote for you.”
Dr. Ayariga expressed frustration over the transactional nature of politics, noting how financial demands breed corruption in leaders. He argued that such practices hinder the ability of leaders to focus on meaningful policies and governance.
“Campaigns have been expensive, such that wherever you go, Ghanaians are asking you to pay them money before they can vote for you,” he lamented.
He called on Ghanaians to shift their perspective on elections, emphasizing it’s the only way we can demand justice, accountability, and commitment to national development rather than monetary gains.
As the 2024 elections approach, Dr. Ayariga’s comments highlight the financial pressures on candidates, particularly those from smaller parties, in a political landscape dominated by monetized campaigning.
