Ghana Declares March 31 and April 1 as Public Holidays for Eid-Ul-Fitr

The Government of Ghana has officially designated Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Eid-Ul-Fitr. This decision, announced by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), follows an Executive Instrument (E.I.) issued by His Excellency, the President.

Eid-Ul-Fitr, the Islamic festival marking the conclusion of Ramadan, falls on Sunday, March 30, 2025. However, in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601) and to facilitate national celebrations, the government has extended the holiday to the following Monday and Tuesday.

Muslims across Ghana will commemorate the occasion with prayers, communal gatherings, and festive meals, symbolizing the end of a month dedicated to fasting and spiritual reflection. The public is encouraged to observe these holidays respectfully and partake in the celebrations where appropriate.

This declaration reinforces Ghana’s longstanding commitment to religious and cultural inclusivity, ensuring that all citizens have the opportunity to honor significant occasions within their faith traditions.
