Security forces in Bawku have arrested four individuals in connection with violent clashes that claimed two lives on Friday, January 10, 2025. The Upper East Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests, carried out during a military-led operation aimed at restoring order in the conflict-prone area.

The operation, which also led to the seizure of eight assault rifles and a large cache of ammunition, underscores the severity of the ongoing violence. According to reports, security agencies believe the intervention was critical in subduing tensions that have plagued Bawku in recent months.

The latest violence was reportedly triggered by an attack on a passenger bus on Monday, January 6, 2025, which left several passengers injured. Among the arrested suspects, the youngest are 15 years old, highlighting the troubling involvement of children in the conflict.

Rooted in long-standing chieftaincy disputes between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups, the conflict in Bawku has claimed 41 lives since October 2024.
