Edem Issues Statement Detailing Accident and Assuring Fans of His Well-being Amid Ongoing Investigation

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Edem has released a statement addressing recent reports surrounding his involvement in a near-fatal accident, for which he has been granted GH₵50,000 bail. In the statement shared on his Instagram page, Edem recounts the incident and emphasizes his commitment to cooperating with authorities during the ongoing investigation.

The statement begins by clarifying the nature of the accident, describing it as a “near-fatal accident” according to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) division of the Tesano Police Service. Edem narrates that the incident occurred on Sunday, 10th December, following his appearance on United Television. The accident took place on the George Walker Bush Highway, where, unexpectedly, a woman crossed his path. The impact led to Edem’s car overturning, but the rapper himself emerged unharmed.

The artist reassures fans that he is actively collaborating with the police as part of due process while the case remains under investigation. Edem expresses his willingness to assist in the ongoing inquiries whenever necessary. The statement concludes with an affirmation of his safety and continued engagement with his fans.

Amidst the legal developments, the rapper faces charges of careless and inconsiderate driving, as well as negligently causing harm. According to reports from Citinewsroom, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. last Saturday on the George Walker Bush Highway from Abeka to Spintex Road. Despite Edem being in the center lane, the collision resulted in the victim, a woman in her 40s, being pronounced dead upon arrival at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Edem, who was charged with the mentioned offenses, did not enter a plea during the initial court appearance. He is set to re-appear on February 15, 2024, and has been granted bail in the amount of GHC 50,000.
