Andy Appiah-Kubi Attributes NPP’s 2024 Defeat to Leadership Failures
Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the December 7, 2024, general elections to what he describes as greed, selfishness, and arrogance among party leaders and government ministers. Speaking on The Key Points show with Alfred Ocansey on Saturday, December 14, Appiah-Kubi delivered a blunt critique of his party’s leadership, accusing them of losing touch with the grassroots.
“Greed, selfishness, and arrogance of power caused our defeat,”
he declared, adding that these traits alienated voters and tarnished the NPP’s credibility. His comments reflect widespread frustrations within the party, as many supporters demand greater accountability and meaningful reforms in the wake of the loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Political analysts have echoed Appiah-Kubi’s sentiments, citing perceptions of arrogance and self-interest among some NPP leaders as key factors in eroding public trust. This disconnect between the leadership and the electorate, they argue, played a significant role in the party’s defeat. Appiah-Kubi’s remarks highlight the growing calls within the NPP for introspection and change.
As the party reflects on its shortcomings, demands for unity and structural reforms are intensifying. Appiah-Kubi’s candid assessment underscores the urgency of addressing internal dissatisfaction if the NPP hopes to rebuild and position itself for success in future elections.
