Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, has congratulated the Russian President Vladmir Putin on Monday for being sworn in for the fourth term.
The White house made the announcement, while highlighting the importance of freedom of assembly, after the mass arrest of protesters.
Sarah Sanders, who is the White House Press Secretary told reporters that, “The US President congratulates him and looks forward to a time when we can. n hopefully have a good relationship with Russia.
“However, the United States believes that everyone has a right to be heard and assemble peacefully,” Sanders added.
Meanwhile, nearly 1,600 protesters including Putin’s most vocal opponent, Alexei Navalny, were detained on Saturday during nationwide rallies against the Russian leader under the slogan “Not Our Tsar.”
