United States President, Donald Trump has removed the Secretary of state, Rex Tillerson after he was marked as America’s top diplomat that was marked by a series of public disagreements with him.

President Trump plans on appointing CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace the former Exxon Mobil chief executive.

He also selected the Deputy CIA Director, Gina Haspel to run the spy agency.

Meanwhile, the sacked Secretary of state visited Nigeria on Monday, March 12, which is the last leg of his official visits to Africa.

Tillerson is the first high-ranking official under the Trump administration to do so. He met Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari during the visit as they discussed issues of mutual interest between both countries.

During his visit to Nigeria, the now ex-Secretary state also warned Nigeria and the rest of Africa against accessing financial help from China.

Trump, however made the sack announcement via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.

According to CNBC, since February 2017, when Tillerson took the post, mixed messages came out repeatedly out of the White House and a State Department with diminishing relevance.

The intramural clashes between the Secretary of state and the President came due to major international crises, including a nuclear weapon shutdown with North Korea.
